“I was the first artist of color to open a tattoo studio in Paris,” says Xavier Saint Amand proudly. Born in Guadeloupe, Xavier studied Tahitian and Marquesas tattoo art under the internationally renowned Tahitian tattoo artist Julien in Montpellier, France.
Polynesian tattoos quickly turned into a passion that gripped him for life. “You live it 100%, you think of it all the time,” he says.
Xavier’s distinct style is a departure from the traditional Polynesian tattoo. He combines traditional Polynesian motifs with purely decorative Marquesan inspired art, creating a dynamic and modern aesthetic that yet beautifully expresses the essence of a Polynesian “tribal tattoo”.
